Perich Residence

John & Wanda Perish made the call with a special request. The Perishs fancied a look that has been prevalent in areas of New England and Philadelphia as well ocean fronts up & down the coasts. Our home owners wanted natural Western Red Cedar Shingles.

The existing split level home has a beautiful blend of red brick masonry on the lower levels. This has stood the test of time. It looks great and confirms the intelligence of “The Third Little Pig”, no renovations needed here. The right and rear upper facades were primarily aluminum siding as was a front facing half gable. The remainder of the upper split levels (Front, Left and Rear elevations) consisted of stucco and painted boards displaying an English Tudor style. Both the aluminum and stucco had to go.

Wanda & John’s choice was an 18” Number 1 Grade Blue Label shingle, commonly referred to in the trades as “Perfections” for over 100 years. It was decided to install the Cedar with a 5 ½” exposure to the weather. With the 18” long Cedar Perfections this translates to triple coverage, 3 layers of Natural Cedar between the elements and the home. Home Solutions Partners applies coil stock aluminum flashings behind outside and inside corners as a standard safeguard. Tyvek house wrap is installed prior to the Cedar installations for added protection against moisture & air infiltration. The outside corners require a special touch. Our journeymen carpenters hand cut each individual Cedar Shingle on an angle, plane to fit and lace/weave the corners alternately lapping over the previous layers to produce an attractive weather resistant corner seldom seen in the industry today.

When removing the rear gable stucco water damage was discovered on a large Andersen circle top window. The stucco siding was improperly flashed in this area causing the window to fail. Fortunately Home Solutionswas able to quickly locate a new window of the same size. With meticulous precision the old window was removed. Home Solutions was able to accurately position the new window with no need or cost for interior trim & finishes. We then installed the proper flashings and a rubber Flex J-Channel around the new semi-circle window. At the owner’s request to save on costs Home Solutions Partners saved aluminum siding removed from the existing gable walls. We utilized this siding installing it on this rear gable with the new J-Channels.

New Andersen tilt-wash conversion windows were added and four custom routed 6x6 support posts now adorn the front entry.

The “After Photos” speak volumes. The front, left and right elevations all reveal Cedar over Brick when viewed from any vantage point approaching the Perish home. The rear facade now shows all aluminum siding over Brick. The new look is a stand out in John & Wanda’s development and the transformation is truly astounding.
